Who are the Sisters?

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® is a leading-edge Order of queer nuns. Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty and we use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.

Give Till It Hurts

Use our secured method to leave us a tax-deductible donation so that we can further our vows to spread universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt by providing grants to nonprofits that promote wellness, identity, tolerance and diversity in our communities.

Sainthood At Last!

As Sisters we strive to uphold our vows to our community; to promulgate universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt. While the pathway of a Sister isn’t for everyone, we recognize special individuals living the calling in their own lives through their devotion to public service, social activism, and spiritual enlightenment.

In recognition of their actions we give the honorific of Sainthood within the Order of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. The Sisters could not minister to the community without the exemplary support and collaboration with our Saints and in this humble way we thank them for their continued embodiment of service, action and joy.

Saint Protect & Serve of the Castro Beat

Aka: Ken Craig
Sainted: December 16, 2012, at The Edge Bar

The Castro is definitely safer through the tireless work of Ken Craig who has dedicated himself to safety and security issues. Not only did he help to establish the all-volunteer Castro Community on Patrol in 2006 which continually patrols the "gayborhood" but also educates residents and visitors alike with life-saving safety messages. Today, he serves as the organization's Vice Chair and director of volunteer training. And who better to train the new recruits than someone who holds two 9th Degree and one 8th Degree black belts and sits on the board of Team San Francisco as the martial arts chair? In 1988, he founded and served as president of Triangle Martial Arts Association and has also worked hand in hand with the Sisters helping us to take The Stop the Violence campaign to new heights. He is also instrumental in forming the San Francisco Police Department's LGBT Community Advisory Form. Originally, from Scotland, Craig has served in the British Army and worked on a nuclear submarine as a contractor.

Saint Joe My Gawd

Blog Daddy of the Gay, Radical Interwebs

Aka: Joe Jervis
Sainted: October 7, 2012, at "Remember the Party" at City Nights

Is the pen -- we mean the keyboard -- mightier than the sword? If you've ever visited the blog Joe.My.God. written by Joe Jervis you certainly would think so. A vigorous documentarian of the LGBT quest for equality, Joe has exposed the Right-wing, theocratic rhetoric time and time again for what it is -- BS. In fact, he has ruffled the feathers of the extremists to such a degree that they have called his blog hate speech. Irony, indeed, since he simply quotes the words spewed forth from the radical right. In 2011, GLADD felt his work merited the Outstanding Blog award.

Saint Huggable Grand Duchess
of the Bulging Purse, Fundraiser Extraordinaire

Aka: Kylie Minono
Sainted: September 22, 2012, at Hotel Whitcomb

"I started doing drag as a tool to further my service to the community." And Kylie Minono certainly has done that and then some. In 2012, she was voted in as the Ducal Council's Grand Duchess of the Huggable Red Lion Court. In a year's time her court raised a record amount of money for Bay Area nonprofits topping $45,000. In her boy persona, Kyle, dedicates her singing talents to the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. At the chorus, she has served as their co-chair for fundraising. She also served on the board of Folsom Street Events and has volunteered for a multitude of nonprofits from AIDS Emergency Fund to Framelline. During the day, you can find Kyle at Visual Aid, which supplies resources to artists with life-threatening conditions, where he works as a development manager.

Saint Hot Mess Honey Bear

Aka: Patrick Noonan
Sainted: July 20, 2012, at The Edge

Patrick is the consummate community fundraiser as private citizen who continually and tirelessly works at raising needed cash for the many nonprofits that serve our communities, particularly those that work with HIV/AIDS. Most weekends, Patrick can be found at one of the many fundraisers held at any of the local Castro bars, either running an event, organizing it or showing his support. From time to time he has been known to manifest as Hot Mess, with his bodacious Ta Tas, lip synching for dollars to give back to charity and has appeared at a number of Sister fundraisers. On weeknights, Patrick volunteers his time at Under One Roof, helping to manage this retail space whose profits go toward local HIV/AIDS organizations, and every year he organizes one of the locations for Dining Out for Life, another HIV/AIDS fundraiser. Patrick is also a past Grand Duke (Duke Honey Bear) of the Ducal Council and a member of Mama’s Family.
