Who are the Sisters?

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® is a leading-edge Order of queer nuns. Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty and we use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.

Inspiration

Community service has been a life-long vocation.  I was a get-involved volunteer type person as a kid in school and in church.  Since moving to San Francisco, I've long known and respected the work of the Sisters.  When I began my process with the Sisters, I though that I'd pick up some event-based fundraising skills and make some friends along the way.  Little did I know how the Calling of Sister Ministry would re-shape my understanding of community service, and expand my notion of the Calling to Ministry.

Just your garden variety Methodist-Unitarian-Buddhist-Pagan-Faerie-Witch.

Be your true authentic self.  Cultivate joy.  Let go of hurts and sorrows.  Laugh at ever apporpriate opportunity -- and every now then, some inappropriate ones.
