Hometown B.F. East of Eden (a.k.a The East Bay, California) Date Joined The Order I started volunteering for the Sisters in June 2001. I worked for them at Pink Saturday, marched with them in the Pride Parade and helped with bingo. After some internal debate and soul-searching, I announced my intention to join in November of 2001, became a member of the Order in January of 2002 and was Fully Professed on 12 December 2002. When Did You Discover Your Calling? I don't think that I can point to one specific moment of time. I started on my path with the Sisters by simply stating, "I want to give back to the community." However, as I progressed towards Novice, I found that there was more and more that was inspiring me. I rediscover my Calling all the time; each time I bring someone Joy; each time I am challenged to be the best you've ever seen. Why Did You Become A Sister? For me, being a Sister is all about Love. If I am in Habit and I make one person smile, then I have done my job. Raising money and helping people materially is a very important part of what we do. But the real work happens in one-on-one interactions. For me, being a nun isn't just about giving grants or following the rules or having the most glamourous outfits: it's about spreading the Love and having a Joyous and Indulgent time while doing it. Sponsors In The Order My Mother in the Order is Sister Lily White Superior Posterior, my Novice Mistress is Sister Gina Tonic the Sparkling, my Fairy Godmother is Sister Constance Craving and my Wicked Stepmother is Sister Betty Does, LNM. I look back at the Sisters who have gone before me and am amazed, awed and inspired. I want to be able to live up to the standard they have set. I want to be able to do Good Works equal to theirs. And I want to amaze, awe and inspire future generations of nuns. The Sisters have had an amazing 30 years of community service, joy and indulgence. I am hopeful that our next 30 years will be even better. I want to see the Sisters increase their connection with the community that we serve. There are a lot of great people doing good work out there. By working together, we make each other stronger. I want to see the Sisters resume their role as political activists and sacred clowns. We all need to work together to create the world we want to live in. Most of all, I want to see the Sisters' message of love and guilt-free indulgence spread all over the world. By loving each other, we make the world a brighter, more magickal place. Religious Beliefs "The object of the search for religious truth, which is a universal and never-ending search, may be found through the Earth-Mother; which is Nature; but this is one way, yea, one way among many. And great is the importance, which is of a spiritual importance, of Nature, which is the Earth-Mother; for it is one of the objects of Creation, and with it people do live, yea, even as they do struggle through life they are come face to face with it." - RDNA Tenets "An it harm none, do what thou will." - The Wiccan Rede "Love is the law; love under will." - Alastair Crowley "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." - Hassan Ibn Sabbah Sister Edith's Guidelines For Life It is not wise to say no to free drinks, cheap jewelry, discount cosmetics or pretty boys. Or even pretty girls, for that matter. Cheap lipstick should be avoided at all costs. The judicious use of glitter can distract the eye from many imperfections. If you're walking through the park and you're worried about stepping in shit, then all you'll see are piles of crap. Life is too short, baby! Make sure you look at the flowers and the trees. And if you do step in a pile of poo, you can always wash it off. Make the rules up as you go along; it makes the game more fun to play. Obey the Fist! Other People's Words That I Find Instructive "QUI MANDVCAT MEVM CARNEM... IN ME MANET EGO IN ILLO." - John 6:57 "OMNIA MVTANTIS NIHIL INTERIT" - Ovid "FRONTI NVLLA FIDES" - Juvenal "This is the best way I've found to be the best you've ever seen." - Hedwig "Being a Powerpuff Girl isn't about getting your way or having the best stuff or being popular or powerful. It's about using your own unique abilities to help people and the world we all live in." - Blossom "There's beauty in the darker corners of human behavior if you aren't presuming you'll find light." - Sherilyn Connelly "The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen." - Frank Lloyd Wright "...control can never be a means to any practical end. It can never be a means to anything but more control." - William S. Burroughs "Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't." - Margaret Thatcher "My goal is to always come from a place of love... but sometimes you just have to break it down for a motherfucker." - RuPaul "In itself, homosexuality is as limiting as heterosexuality: the ideal should be to be capable of loving a woman or a man; either, a human being, without feeling fear, restraint, or obligation." - Simone de Beauvoir « Return to Meet The Sisters page. |
